1. Scope and controller

This Privacy Policy applies to the Tru language-learning application and the services made available through it (together, “Tru”). It covers account features, reading and learning activity, content you choose to add, support communications, and optional features you choose to use. It does not describe the independent practices of websites or services that Tru does not control.

The data controller is Ökte Çilmi (“we,” “us,” or “our”). Questions and privacy requests can be sent to hello@learnwithtru.com.

Our approach

Tru does not sell personal information, serve third-party advertising, or track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.

2. Information we process

2.1 Account and profile information

If you create an account, we may process your email address, account identifier, authentication information, display name, profile image, preferred language, the language you are learning, proficiency level, learning goals, interests, theme, and reminder preferences. If you use a sign-in option provided by an app platform, we receive only the account information that the platform makes available to Tru.

2.2 Reading and learning information

To provide and remember your experience, Tru may process your library selections, reading position and progress, reading sessions, bookmarks, highlights, notes, favorites, saved words, word lookups, translations, practice answers, review history, goals, streaks, and related learning statistics. We may use aggregated or de-identified activity to understand which catalog titles and features are useful. We do not use this information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

2.3 Content you choose to provide

If you choose to add a book, image, note, highlight, or other content, we process that content and associated details so it can be made available to your account and used for the features you request. Please do not add content you do not have the right to use, or content containing unnecessary personal or sensitive information about another person.

2.4 Optional language and audio features

When you request certain language or audio features, the text you select and the preferences needed to complete the request may be processed to return the result. Tru uses that material only to provide the feature, maintain safety and reliability, and meet legal obligations. Do not submit confidential, highly sensitive, or legally privileged text to these optional features.

2.5 Purchases and entitlements

For paid features, the app marketplace handles payment. We may receive a transaction reference, product, subscription or entitlement status, renewal state, and related purchase events needed to provide access and support. We do not receive your full payment-card number from the marketplace.

2.6 Technical, security, and support information

We may receive information such as IP address, date and time of a request, app and operating-system version, device category, language and region settings, diagnostic events, crash information, and security or abuse signals. If you contact us, we process your contact details, message, attachments, and the history of the support request.

When you use the website contact form, we use a security check to prevent automated abuse and an email-delivery service to bring your message to our inbox. Please do not include passwords or sensitive personal information in your message. Sending a contact request does not sign you up for marketing emails.

3. How we use information

We use information described above to:

  • create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and provide requested app features;
  • remember reading progress, preferences, saved content, and learning activity;
  • provide contextual language help, practice, accessibility, and optional audio features;
  • operate, maintain, troubleshoot, protect, and improve Tru;
  • respond to support, privacy, safety, and rights-related requests;
  • manage access to paid features when offered;
  • send service messages and reminders you choose to receive; and
  • comply with law, enforce our terms, and protect users, Tru, and others.

We do not use the content of your reading activity or personal uploads to build advertising profiles. If we want to use personal information for a materially different purpose, we will provide appropriate notice and obtain consent where required.

4. Legal bases

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on: contract, to provide the features you request and administer your account; legitimate interests, to secure, maintain, support, and improve Tru in ways that do not override your rights; consent, where you choose an optional feature or communication that requires it; and legal obligations, when processing is necessary to comply with law or valid legal process.

You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Some information is necessary to provide an account or a requested feature; if it is not provided, that feature may not work.

5. When information is shared

We disclose information only as reasonably necessary in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers. Companies that help provide account management, data hosting and delivery, requested language or audio features, customer support, security, diagnostics, and other operational services. They may process information only for the contracted purpose and subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • App marketplace. The marketplace may process installation, purchase, subscription, refund, and diagnostic information under its own privacy terms.
  • Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or establish and defend legal claims.
  • Business change. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of Tru, subject to continued protection and applicable notice requirements.
  • At your direction. We may share information when you ask us to or give valid consent.

Providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where required, we use recognized transfer safeguards and take steps intended to ensure an appropriate level of protection. You may contact us for more information about safeguards relevant to your information.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Tru, fulfill the purposes in this policy, comply with legal and accounting duties, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce agreements. Retention depends on the kind of information, whether your account remains active, the sensitivity of the information, and applicable law.

Account content is generally kept while your account is active. When you delete content or request account deletion, we remove or de-identify associated information within a reasonable period, unless continued retention is required or permitted by law. Limited copies may remain temporarily in protected backups, and records needed for security, fraud prevention, transactions, or legal claims may be kept for the applicable period.

You can request deletion of your account and associated information from the account controls in Tru, or by emailing hello@learnwithtru.com from the email associated with your account. We may ask you to verify the request. Removing the app alone does not necessarily delete an account.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal information; receive a portable copy; withdraw consent; and complain to a competent data-protection authority. You may also have the right to know the categories and sources of personal information, the purposes for using it, and the categories of recipients.

You can change many preferences in Tru and can control app notifications through your device settings. To exercise a legal right, email hello@learnwithtru.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and may request reasonable verification. Authorized agents may submit requests where local law permits, subject to proof of authority and identity verification. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

Tru does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising and therefore does not offer a sale or targeted-advertising opt-out. If our practices change, we will update this policy and provide any required choices before the change applies.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential and for notifying us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

9. Children

Tru is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without legally valid authorization. A higher minimum age or parental consent may apply where required by local law. If you believe a child has provided personal information contrary to this section, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to Tru, law, or our practices. We will post the revised policy, update the date above, and provide additional notice where required. Material changes apply prospectively unless the law permits otherwise.
